Two Jacksonville State Faculty Honored at Etowah Chamber’s 2025 Excellence in Education Awards

GADSDEN, AL — Two Jacksonville State University faculty members were recognized for their outstanding contributions to education during the Etowah Chamber’s 2025 Excellence in Education ceremony, held May 8 at Gadsden State Community College. The event celebrated top educators from across Northeast Alabama and welcomed more than 300 attendees.

Dr. Ashley Turner, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education in JSU’s College of Education and Professional Studies, was honored with the Excellence in Science Award. She was recognized for her innovative work in science education through The Lab. in Teacher Education at Jacksonville State. Her application was selected from a highly competitive pool of nominees, with judges highlighting the significant educational impact and innovation demonstrated in her work.

Dr. Christi Trucks, Associate Professor and Department Head for Career Technical Education and Professional Studies at JSU, received the Excellence in Career Tech Post Secondary Award. Her leadership in preparing future educators through practical, career-focused learning experiences earned her the accolade.

“The Etowah Chamber is deeply honored to give recognition to our community,” said Philip Hall, President & CEO of the Etowah Chamber. Austin Tillison, Director of PR at Gadsden State Community College, added, “It’s a distinct honor for these recipients to be a part of a select group of people making an impact in education. This award ceremony helps set the standard of excellence for education in Northeast Alabama.”

The annual ceremony, now in its eighth year, highlights educators across various categories, including Teachers of the Year and National Board-Certified Teachers. Organized by the Etowah Chamber, the event reflects the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses and spotlighting exceptional educators shaping the region’s future.
