- Public Comments
- Audrey Maxwell with the Calhoun Chamber of Commerce spoke regarding the unprecedented tourism numbers for May. She mentioned the 60th Anniversary of the Freedom Riders. Council Wilson was present for that event on May 14th. She also mentioned the recent events of the Canine Biathlon, Cheaha Challenge, and the Choccolocco Park events that had more than 5,000 visitors than normal. She also talked about the upcoming City of Jacksonville and JSU cornhole tournament next week. This event is being held at Pete Matthews Stadium. The Chamber of Commerce is doing more advertising through billboards and social media posting to bring in more tourism.
- J.D. Hess mentioned the horse trails and that the stalls were being put to use. A group traveling from Texas to North Carolina for a 100 jumper competition said they received great hospitably and would tell others.
- Keven Johns with the Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention spoke to let the commissioners know about a grant they were awarded through the Alabama Public Health Department. The grant will be applied to drug prevention in Calhoun County.
- Myles Chamblee with the Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency confirmed there are no COVID patients at RMC currently.
- The Calhoun County Water Authority confirmed that there are no current water restrictions.
- Johnny Warren with Anniston EMS stated they were almost back to normal, pre-COVID, numbers.
- Brian Rosenbalm, the Calhoun County Engineer, confirmed the roads are in good shape. He also noted that the County Commission Association did use contracted services to pickup debris in unincorporated Calhoun County for the past 41 days after the recent tornado. In that time 200,000 cubic yards of debris were collected and removed. This is a credit to the residents who moved the debris to the street and also to the commissioners for having this plan in place. Janice Howard, Administrative Secretary for Calhoun County, wanted to praise the commissioners and also Melissa Wood and all the people who worked behind the scenes to ensure programs like these are in place and run smoothly in Calhoun County.
