Alexandria’s Pressley Slaton in the East Alabama Sports Today Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County player of the year, and Alexandria coach Brian Hess is the coach of the year. Slaton, now a two-time player of the year, batted .427 with a .497 on-base percentage, 14 home runs, 22 doubles and 69 RBIs. In the circle, she finished 22-7 with a 2.305 ERA, 1.256 WHIP, 216 strikeouts and 79 walks in 194 1/3 innings pitched. Hess guided the Valley Cubs to a 41-11-3 record, county and area titles and to the final four of the Class 4A state tournament, doing so against a brutal schedule. Donoho’s Anna Kate Wallace is East Alabama Sports Today’s pick as 2025 Calhoun County player of the year for girls’ soccer, and Oxfords Yandel Amador is player of the year for boys’ soccer. Both were All-State selections by the Alabama Soccer Coaches Association. Wallace set a new school record with 63 goals in 19 matches, running her career total to 119 goals. She also had 10 assists while leading Donoho to the county title and the state Class 1A-3A semifinals. Donoho’s Blair Kitchen is the 2024 East Alabama Sports Today All-Calhoun County player of the year for girls’ tennis, and Oxford’s Kai McEwen takes top honors on the boys’ side. Both won their courts at the Red Wilder Invitational, the de facto county tournament. Kitchen went unbeaten during the regular season and sectional, her lone loss coming in the state Class 4A-5A No. 2 singles final. McEwen was 9-1 in singles and 5-3 in doubles matches in the regular season and won the No. 1 singles court in the Class 6A, Section 3.
