ANNISTON — The 18th Buddy Moore Charity Golf Tournament is shaping up as a clash of a three-time championship team and a temporary super team.

Andrew Brooks and Brennan Clay, seeking their fourth Buddy Moore title, shot 15-under-par 55 in Saturday’s first round to lead the team of Jacob LeCroy-Gary Wigington by one stroke headed into Sunday’s final round.

They’ll form Sunday’s final foursome, and Brooks-Clay look to add to their list of Buddy Moore titles in 2018, 2021 and 2024.

“That’s the goal,” Clay said.

Brooks wielded the hot putter Saturday, hitting a 25-foot eagle putt on No. 18 and a 30-foot birdie putt on No. 4.

“Just had the putter going today, and we brother-in-lawed everywhere else,” Brooks said. “We started seeing the ball go in early.”

Clay made a near-30-footer on No. 6, their first hole of the day, touching off a string of four consecutive birdies.

‘We got off to a good start and never really got in a lull,” Brooks said. “We made some putts that you really don’t expect to make and got some momentum going.”

LeCroy and Wigington formed when Wigington texted LeCroy. Wigington’s usual partner, Ty Cole, wasn’t available, so LeCroy and Wigington formed a dream team of sorts.

“He texted me about a month ago, out of the blue,” LeCroy said. “I said, ‘You know what? You’ve got it.’”

For now, their alliance is only for the Buddy Moore. LeCroy and Donoho School teammate Harrison Hughston look to defend their Sunny King Charity Classic title in two weeks.

As for Saturday’s round of the Buddy Moore, WIgington teed first most of the round.

“We didn’t do anything spectacular,” LeCroy said. “We just played solid all day.”

LeCroy is resurfacing after appearing twice out of nine points events on the 2026 Calhoun County Golf Tour.

His time away came as he and his wife announced the approaching berth of the first child. He also just achieved a promotion at work, going from trainee to full agent at Alfa Insurance’s Oxford office.

Aside from the Sunny King, he plans to team with Cole in the U.S. four-ball qualifier in Annandale, Miss.

“I’ve been practicing a good bit the last two weeks, just trying to get ready,” LeCroy said.
