Weaver boys rally for 13th state wrestling title; Weaver girls repeat as champions as Calhoun County sweeps state honors

Weaver’s boys rally from behind to claim 13th state wrestling title, and Weaver’s girls dominate to become back-to-back champions. Alexandria boys, girls runners up, give Calhoun County sweep of ‘map’ trophies.

HUNTSVILLE — Calhoun County high school wrestling had a good day at the state tournament Saturday. A very, very good day.

Haiden Hise turned the tide with a key pin for his second state title, and Dalton Fink got the clinching major decision Saturday as Weaver’s boys rallied from behind to edge Calhoun County rival Alexandria 156.5-155 and win yet another Class 1A-4A state title.

Weaver’s boys won their 13th state title and fourth in five years.

They also shared the day’s glory with Weaver’s girls’, who became back-to-back state champions a year after claiming the first-ever AHSAA-sanctioned 1A-5A state title for girls’ wrestling. Weaver’s girls prevailed over Alexandria 136-77.5.

Schools from Calhoun County came home with the champion’s “blue map” trophy and runnerup’s “red map” trophy in the boys’ 1A-4A division and girls’ 1A-5A division.
