Jax State seems to have settled into a winning formula with a 3-0 start to CUSA play, but Kelly wants to keep the ‘rat poison’ away over what amounts to a second fall camp ahead.
JACKSONVILLE — Rat poison used to mean something in Alabama.
It used to be the thing your landlord handed you, sometimes wrapped in aluminum foil, when one informed him of an unwanted, non-rent-sharing guest.
Then Nick Saban gave rat poison a football context, and anything related to rodents became a secondary definition in Alabama.
Charles Kelly, a noted Nick Saban disciple and frequent Sabanism adherent, hinted at a deeper understanding of rat poison Saturday, after Jax State reeled off another one-scoring victory, 27–24, over Florida International.
There’s a worst kind of rat poison, when it comes to that whole football context.
