Jacksonville, AL – The Jacksonville City Council approved several resolutions, project agreements, personnel actions, and budget amendments during its regular meeting on May 26, 2026. The council also held a work session prior to the meeting that included presentations and discussions regarding the Veterans Memorial Cemetery and flag retirement program, a proposed city website update, job description modifications, future budget work sessions, a Safe Haven Baby Box proposal, and discussion of livestreaming future work sessions.
During the regular meeting, the council recognized the 2026 Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department youth track teams for their accomplishments at the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association State Track Meet.
The council unanimously approved Resolution No. R-2311-26, which amended the city’s personnel policies and procedures to add essential information policies and a child protection policy. The policy outlines reporting procedures, supervision expectations, and standards related to the protection of minors involved in city programs and activities.
Council members also approved Resolution No. R-2312-26 awarding engineering services for grant-funded projects through fiscal year 2028. According to the resolution, Three Notch Group received the highest evaluation score during the city’s qualifications review process for future grant-funded community projects.
An amendment to the agenda added Resolution No. R-2313-26, authorizing the City of Jacksonville to apply for funding through the FY2027 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TAP). The application seeks federal funding for pedestrian safety improvements along State Route 21 and Greenleaf Street SW. Proposed improvements include sidewalks, ADA ramps, crosswalks, pedestrian signalization, and a pedestrian bridge in the project area.
The council approved JPWP No. 26-148 for replacement of spill buckets and manholes at the city fuel center. The project, awarded to L.A. Bell Company, Inc., carries an estimated cost of $18,283.
Another added agenda item approved JPWP No. 26-147 for replacement of a broken dissolved oxygen probe and controller at the city’s wastewater treatment plant. The project includes installation of a Hach Process Controller with D.O. Probe and carries an estimated cost of $17,300.
The council also approved scheduling called budget work sessions for July 13, July 27, and August 10.
Personnel actions approved during the meeting included the employment of a full-time public safety communications officer, the reclassification of a firefighter/EMT to firefighter/paramedic following licensure completion, acceptance of a police officer resignation, and acknowledgment of the retirement notification of a library specialist effective June 1, 2026.

Purchases over $7,500 approved during the meeting included communications equipment for the fire department, the city’s annual appropriation to the Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association, and the Christmas decoration purchase for holiday displays.
During reports and council remarks, updates were shared regarding Jacksonville State University athletics, local school graduation ceremonies, the library’s summer reading program, PARD summer activities, Sunny Bites meal distribution efforts, and upcoming community events including the June 28 Freedom Ride and related bicycle safety activities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the council voted to enter executive session to discuss matters of economic development.
