Oxford Health Systems Launches AED Donation Program for Community Organizations

Oxford Paramedics is Placing AEDs in the Community

OXFORD, AL — Oxford Health Systems, with support from the City of Oxford, has announced a new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) community placement program aimed at increasing access to lifesaving equipment throughout the city.

The initiative will make 21 AEDs, previously used in city buildings, available for donation to nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, and community organizations located within Oxford.

According to Oxford Health Systems, the program is designed to expand access to emergency response tools and improve outcomes during cardiac emergencies. AEDs are portable devices used to help restore a normal heart rhythm in individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

As part of its ongoing responsibilities, Oxford Paramedics, the emergency medical services division of Oxford Health Systems, manages and maintains AEDs in public and municipal facilities throughout the city. The new program extends those efforts by placing additional devices in community settings where they may be needed before emergency responders arrive.

Health officials emphasize that early intervention is critical during cardiac arrest incidents. Immediate actions such as recognizing an emergency, calling 911, beginning CPR, and using an AED can significantly improve a person’s chances of survival.

Oxford Paramedics stated that its community-focused care model recognizes the important role citizens play as the first link in the chain of survival during medical emergencies and traumatic injuries. The organization says the program reflects its commitment to equipping residents and local organizations with the education and tools needed to respond when emergencies occur.

Oxford Health Systems also noted that public education and community engagement remain key components of its mission to enhance healthcare services and emergency preparedness throughout Oxford.

Eligible nonprofit organizations, churches, and community groups interested in receiving an AED through the program can apply through the Oxford Health Systems website.
