ANNISTON, AL — Longleaf Botanical Gardens will host two public events on Thursday, June 18, offering visitors opportunities to learn about gardening and wellness while supporting the gardens’ programs.
The first event, “Third Thursday – Discover the Golden Root: Turmeric,” will begin at noon in the Longleaf Event Center Classroom. The educational workshop will explore the history, cultivation, culinary uses, and household applications of turmeric.
According to event organizers, participants will learn practical techniques for growing turmeric at home and discover ways to incorporate the spice into daily life. The program is designed for gardeners, cooks, and anyone interested in learning more about one of the world’s most widely used spices.
The workshop costs $5 per person and is free for Anniston Museums and Gardens members. Registration is available at:

Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of plants, including trees, shrubs, native species, tropical plants, and other selections. Proceeds help support the growth and operations of Longleaf Botanical Gardens.
The plant sale is located along Museum Drive. Organizers advise visitors to pass the Anniston Museum of Natural History and the Berman Museum before turning left at the Monarch Butterfly exhibit to reach the greenhouses.
Both events are open to the public and will take place at Longleaf Botanical Gardens, located on Museum Drive in Anniston.
