ALEXANDRIA, AL — The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating an Anniston man wanted in connection with an alleged armed robbery that occurred Monday evening in Alexandria.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Tavion Harris of Anniston is wanted on a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon following an incident reported around 8 p.m. on June 22 in the parking lot of a grocery store on Big Valley Drive.
Deputies responded to the location after receiving a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a father and son who said they had arranged to meet Harris to purchase a cell phone.
The victims told investigators they approached Harris’s vehicle to discuss the transaction. According to their statements, Harris advised that the phone would cost $500. The younger victim reportedly handed Harris $170 and stated that the remaining balance would be paid after receiving the phone.
Investigators said the victims reported that Harris then displayed a firearm and pointed it at the younger victim while demanding the remainder of the money and ordering him to get into the vehicle.
The younger victim reportedly pretended to comply before running back toward his father, who remained seated in their vehicle. Authorities said Harris then fled the area with two additional occupants in his vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed toward Anniston.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Harris is the only identified suspect in the case. Investigators said the two individuals who were with Harris at the time of the incident have not yet been identified.
The investigation remains active.
Anyone with information regarding the incident, the whereabouts of Harris, or the identities of the other individuals involved is asked to contact the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 256-236-6600.
