Piedmont Crash Claims Lives of Two Local Women

PIEDMONT, AL — Per Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johenson, two Piedmont women were killed Monday morning following a head-on collision involving a sport utility vehicle and a commercial semi-truck on U.S. Highway 278, according to the Piedmont Police Department.

Emergency crews from the Piedmont Police Department, Piedmont Fire Department, and Piedmont Rescue responded to the 1700 block of U.S. Highway 278 at approximately 5:15 a.m. on June 29 after receiving reports of a motor vehicle crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound into Piedmont crossed the center line into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming commercial semi-truck.

Both occupants of the Nissan Rogue were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified the victims as Eva Lowe, 55, of Piedmont, and Jasmine Spicer, 32, of Piedmont.

In a statement, the Piedmont Police Department expressed its condolences to the families and loved ones of the two victims during what it described as an incredibly difficult time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Piedmont Police Department. No additional information has been released.
