Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating recent property crimes and is calling on the public for help. By encouraging community involvement, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to improve public safety and hold those accountable for these criminal activities.
Property Crime: Sometime on July 13, deputies were called to a home in Cedar Springs after the resident started getting unexpected visits from businesses he never contacted. Businesses began arriving at the home claiming someone had scheduled work, but the resident hadn’t placed a call for service. One contractor explained that a caller told him the house needed to be prepped for sale, which the resident said wasn’t true. The contractor said he spoke with a man pretending to be tied to the property, but neither the business or the property owner could identify the person making the calls. Anyone dealing with similar fake service requests should contact the Sheriff’s Office. To avoid scams such as these, residents and businesses are urged to verify all calls, save suspicious messages or numbers, and report anything unusual.
Crime of the Week: On July 14th, deputies responded to a property in Anniston in reference to a burglary in progress. The victim stated that he was awoken by three unknown black males. he victim stated that one of the suspects struck him on the side of the face with a firearm, another fired a shot in his direction, and that all three fled the area. Detectives have since identified and arrested all three suspects, whose names are unable to be released since they are juveniles.
