GADSDEN, AL — Students pursuing career technical and workforce development programs at Gadsden State Community College’s Valley Street Campus will have access to additional financial assistance through a new endowed scholarship established by Alabama Power Company.
The Alabama Power Company Endowed Career Technical and Workforce Development Scholarship will support students enrolled in career technical and workforce development programs at Valley Street, Gadsden State’s historically Black campus.
According to the college, the scholarship is intended to reduce financial barriers for students seeking hands-on training and industry-recognized credentials for careers in high-demand fields.
“Investments like this do more than provide financial assistance. They invest in people, families, and the future of our communities,” said Ricky Tillis, Valley Street Campus director. “Alabama Power Company’s commitment to students at Valley Street helps ensure that talented individuals have the opportunity to develop the skills and credentials necessary to pursue meaningful careers.”
Valley Street Campus offers career technical and workforce development programs designed to provide students with practical skills and training for employment. College officials said the new scholarship will expand access to those programs while continuing the campus’s longstanding focus on education and economic opportunity.
“Alabama Power is proud to support opportunities that help students gain the skills needed to succeed in high-demand careers,” said Spencer Williams, community relations manager with Alabama Power Company. “By investing in education and workforce development, we are helping build a stronger workforce and a stronger community.”
Because the scholarship is endowed, the investment is structured to provide ongoing financial support to eligible students in future years.
The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Gadsden State Community College, works to support student scholarships, academic programs, workforce development and other initiatives benefiting the college and its students. The foundation partners with individuals, businesses and organizations to provide resources supporting Gadsden State’s educational mission.
