CALHOUN COUNTY, AL — A few weeks after introducing readers to a locally developed platform designed to help Alabamians discover what is happening around them, the Calhoun Journal is excited to officially announce its partnership with Hollr.

The partnership is now live, with Hollr powering the Calhoun Journal’s new and improved Local Events page.

The collaboration brings together two independently owned local platforms with a shared goal: making community information easier to find and helping residents discover more of what their area has to offer.

In August, the Calhoun Journal introduced readers to Hollr and its creator, Piedmont native Jaret Prater. Prater developed the platform after repeatedly encountering a familiar problem — learning about events, businesses and activities only after they had already happened.

Hollr was created as a centralized platform where users can discover local events, businesses and destinations, with information organized on a county-by-county basis and an emphasis on what is happening close to home. Additional information about the platform is available through the Hollr website.

At the time of the original announcement, Hollr and the Calhoun Journal were already working toward a collaboration that would integrate Hollr’s event information with the Journal’s website. Now, that collaboration is officially live.

For Calhoun Journal readers, the result is a more robust local events experience without having to leave the Journal website. Readers can visit the Calhoun Journal Local Events page to browse upcoming activities and discover more opportunities to get involved throughout Calhoun County and surrounding communities.

The partnership also creates another avenue for local organizations, businesses, municipalities, nonprofits and other event organizers to get their events in front of a larger local audience.

The collaboration is a natural extension of the Calhoun Journal’s longstanding commitment to providing more than traditional news coverage. Since its creation, the Journal has worked to serve as a community resource — covering local government and public safety while also highlighting businesses, nonprofits, schools, arts, entertainment and the events that bring residents together.

Hollr brings additional technology and event-discovery tools to that mission.

For Prater, the goal behind Hollr has remained straightforward from the beginning: make it easier for people to know what is happening around them.

“My mission is simple: make sure no one in Alabama has to miss out on what’s happening around them ever again,” Prater said when the Calhoun Journal first profiled the platform.

The partnership allows Hollr and the Calhoun Journal to pursue that mission together while each remains an independent local platform.
