JACKSONVILLE — The city is again sponsoring “snip-it ticket” vouchers to help residents spay and neuter their pets.
The City Council approved a $3,000 sponsorship to reduce the cost of 200 snip-it tickets from the Calhoun County Commission’s spay and neuter program. Vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
With the city’s $15 contribution included, a voucher for spaying is $47 for dogs and $27 for cats, and vouchers for neutering are $27 for dogs and $12 for cats. Vouchers can be purchased at the Calhoun County Commission office at 1702 Noble Street, in Anniston.
Be sure to bring proof of Jacksonville residency when purchasing a voucher.
According to Humane Society International, there are several benefits to spaying and neutering pets.
Slowing growth in stray populations, thereby reducing the number of homeless animals in communities. Meanwhile, fewer unexpected or unwanted puppies and kittens will go to local shelters.
Curbing hormone-related behaviors, like roaming, heat cycles and fighting.
Reducing health risks to pets, such as “pyometra, TVT and reproductive cancers,” according to the Humane Society.

For information about the snip-it program, call the County Commission at 256-241-2800.
