The stage in the Jacksonville High School cafetorium was recently turned into a miniature pumpkin patch.
The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America program hosted a Pink Pumpkin Pickin’ Contest. Each advisement class in grades 7-12 was asked to decorate a pumpkin for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Halloween.
Mrs. Vice’s 7th grade advisement class won the Junior High division with their troll-themed creation. The pick for grades 9-12 was Mrs. King’s 9th grade advisement class for the group’s hot pink princess pig. The prize that they won was a special Halloween morning breakfast at school.
This was a creative way to get the student body more involved with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All the pumpkins were very creative and the students said that they were fun to design. After the contest ended, Ms. Howard’s 10th grade advisement class donated their pumpkin to Dr. Aasim Sehbai’s office at The Cancer Center of Anniston for display.
FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education. Involvement in FCCLA offers Jacksonville High School members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life.
