On a rainy Friday morning Superintendent Mark Petersen, Principals Rhonda Tinker and Erika Clark joined representatives of the Buddy Moore Charity Golf Tournament to award a grant to Mrs. Cindy Adcock for her continued work with the students of Kitty Stone Elementary. Mrs. Adcock specifically works as an Autism teacher. This is third years the representatives of The Buddy Moore Charity have given financial support to Mrs. Adcock and Kitty Stone.
The Buddy Moore Charity was names after Golf Pro Buddy Moore who worked at the Anniston Municipal Golf Course. Mr. Tom Sawyer and Mr. Keith Robertson were on hand to award Mrs. Adcock and warmly told stories of Buddy Moore. They shared that from kindergarten through junior high Mr. Moore practically raised to the two gentlemen becoming like a second father or brother to them. They played football at the pro shop and he really invested time and care into them. Mr. Moore was involved in a car accident that eventually led to his passing. His friends, as well as son, wanted to honor him and his love for children.
The charity golf tournament was started to initially raise funds for families of terminal ill children who had financial difficulties with medial expenses. While the charity does still support individual families, they have also expanded to supporting schools and other organizations that work with at need children.
The charity only holds one fund raising event a year. The last Sat and Sunday weekend of August a charity gold tournament is held at the Anniston Municipal Golf Course known as “The Hill”. The event is attended by people from many states and has been labeled the most “fun” golf tournament out there. The first year $4,000 was raised and last year that has increased to $21,000 raised in one weekend. The charity is now over ten years old and in total has given over $110,000 to help children.
Mrs. Adcock shared her genuine appreciation to Mr. Sawyer and Mr. Robertson. As the children continued their routine the guests were able to see how the money was truly put to good use and Mrs. Adcock and her support staff engaged with each and every student. Dr. Petersen warmly thanked the charity. The warm support of the community for the school and the school for the community is one of the many things that makes Kitty Stone and the Jacksonville City Schools such a wonderful environment for all our students here in Jacksonville.
