The Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center is extending assistance to furloughed employees as a result of the government shutdown. JCOC understands that, although it may be temporary, families need to keep moving forward in times of crisis.
JCOC’s motto of “Helping when life hurts” is being put to the test. It is unknown how long the shutdown will last or what the lasting effects may be on those that have been furloughed so they are trying to ease some of the burden.
To receive assistance, JCOC advises furloughed employees to bring a copy of their furlough letter, and current ID, to their office located at, 216 Francis Street West in Jacksonville Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday between 10 am and 2 pm. The building is located behind the Jacksonville Methodist Church.
This program is currently being underwritten by area Presbyterian churches and will hopefully grow as other churches contribute to this project.
If you would like to donate to JCOC please call 256-435-1891 and ask them what their current needs are. Their supplies often run low when events such as this occur and they look to the community for support.
