Per JSU beginning in Fall 2022, the English department will offer students the opportunity to minor in Game Studies. This 18-hour minor will be interdisciplinary, with course electives from English, art, history, computer science and sport management. The goal is to teach students how to design, analyze and create games.
Game Studies minors will learn different methods for building narratives, characters, stories and worlds. They will practice different tools – from Twine to Unity – and analyze games through both a game-journalist and game studies lens.
Some courses in the minor are currently offered, and new courses – such as Introduction to Game Studies, Writing for Gaming and History of Video Games – will be offered next year. For more information, contact Dr. Cara Messina at [email protected].
