Sigma Nu at JSU Offers a Creative Way to Deal with Midterm Stress!

Sigma Nu and Rockin P Rescue

Sigma Nu and Rockin P RescueThe Iota Lambda Chapter of Sigma Nu at Jacksonville State University knows that many students have high levels of stress dealing with mid-terms and they wanted to come up with a creative way to ease stress and earn money for a local nonprofit. With those goals in mind they came up with the idea of having a  Rent-a-Pup day.  On March 2 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm students could visit the dogs on the TMB lawn and rent time to play and love on the dogs for $5.  All proceeds went to Rockin P.  The total earned was just shy of $300. Sigma Nu reached out to Rockin P Rescue based in Jacksonville.  Rockin P Rescue is no-kill rescue started by JSU Alumni Angie Persch in 1999. They work with dogs that are owner surrenders, dogs taken from other shelters and rescues, and abandoned dogs. They are 100% volunteer based and are very community minded. To learn more about them, to adopt a dog from Rockin P or to volunteer with them please visit there website! The Calhoun County Journal spoke also to Carlos Gonzales of Sigma Nu and he said he was inspired to organize this event because midterms are stressful times and so many students aren’t able to have pets while staying in the dorms. This was a fun way to help the students relax and help out the community. A few of the dogs present were Shirley, Fred, and Ethel.  All these dogs are available through adoption along with many others!
