Possible Funnel Cloud Sighted over Jacksonville

March 14, 2019 Jim Evancho Almost a year after the devastating EF-3 tornado that struck Jacksonville, residents are talking about another possible funnel cloud over the city.

At approximately 6:44 pm the tornado sirens were going off again in Jacksonville. Residents of the city were in contact with us and advising they could see the formation of a funnel cloud over the NE side of the city. People that witnessed the funnel cloud said it was still very high up and did not seem to touchdown anywhere they could see. The cloud formation was reported by witnesses to have moved up and over Chimney Peak.

Some of our local residents were able to capture what may be the forming of a funnel cloud and have shared them with The Jacksonville Journal. Kyle Warmack stated he was video taping the storm and caught a power substation transformer lighting up from the storm. Although many residents were on edge with the vivid reminders of what happened a year ago everyone was relieved when the strong storm continued to move past us without any signs of a tornado touchdown.

  We contacted Jacksonville Police Department to verify that there was no contact with the ground. Chief Marcus Wood stated, at 7:37 pm, that there was “No damage in Jacksonville”. Conditions are still favorable for more possible tornado development and residents are urged to remain vigilant until the watch ends at 12:00 am.
