The Oxford Performing Arts Center will showcase An American In Paris inspired by the Academy Award-winning 1951 film starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, the stage musical An American in Paris premiered on Broadway in 2015 after an opening at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. With a timeless score from George and Ira Gershwin, the ravishing musical numbers include I Got Rhythm, S’Wonderful, and But Not for Me. Set in the French capital in the wake of World War II, An American in Paris tells the romantic story of an American G.I., a beautiful French girl, and the indomitable European city—all three yearnings for a new beginning in the aftermath of international conflict. “It’s got starlight, it’s got sweet dreams and, yes, it’s got rhythm too.
