Oxford, AL – Pangrong Xiao of Birmingham defeated Hari Narayanabhatla of Atlanta to win the inaugural Oxford, Alabama, Open on Aug. 20. Xiao won $300. Narayanabhatla won $200 and William Horton of Atlanta and Leidy Handoko of Memphis each won $100 as semifinalists.
In Class AA, Chris King of Birmingham was first, Richard Triplet of Atlanta second. Semifinalists were Andrew Davis of Pell City, Alabama, and Henry Yin of Birmingham.
In Class A, Dharmaraj Coona of Memphis was first, Roger Dickson of Gallatin, Tennessee, was second and semifinalists were Gang Wang of Huntsville, Alabama, and Ross Heidingsfelder of New Orleans.
In the Class BBB, Jozef Simkovic of Birmingham won $120 and Krish Nathan won $80. Semifinalists were Christopher Tickell of Birmingham and Yu Lei of Huntsville, Alabama.
In Class BB, Korky Greco of Atlanta was first, and Sawyer McGuire of Huntsville, Alabama, was second. Semifinalists were Kip Beebe Chappell of Oxford, Alabama and Shervy Evans of Gallatin, Tennessee.
In Class B, Grant Mikus of Huntsville, Alabama, was first, and John Helfinstine of Oxford, Alabama was second. Semifinalists were Neel Patki and Ishaan Jain, both of Birmingham.
This tournament was put on by North East Alabama Table Tennis and The City of Oxford PARD. They had players coming in to compete from all over the South East. Fifty players in all competed. Players from New Orleans, Memphis TN, Pensacola FL, Tuscaloosa, Mobile, Birmingham and local Calhoun County players. Mike Harris was the Tournament Director and Kip Chappell organized the event as the City of Oxford Event Planner.
