Calhoun County, AL – Piedmont, Saks, Alexandria, Ohatchee and Ragland victorious in baseball; Oxford, Piedmont and White Plains pile up runs in softball; Saks girls win in soccer

 

Kale Austin went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and McClane Mohon went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs and two RBIs as Piedmont beat Weaver 17-5 in Class 3A, Area 10 baseball play Tuesday. Jake Austin also had a double with two RBIs and a run, and Jack Hayes went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Max Hanson, Trevor Pike, Cole Austin and Sloan Smith each drove in a run. Smith pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, one earned run and one walk with five strikeouts in five innings. For Weaver, Eli Smith went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Christian Marturello went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

SAKS 11, WELLBORN 7: Trent Hopkins went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs to lead the Wildcats in 3A, Area 10 play. Lajuan Curry, Gage Brown and Christopher Carter each drove in a run. Jacori Avery went 2-for-4 with a run. Mason Jairrels pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and one walk with seven strikeouts for the win. For Wellborn. Will Phillips went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Aziah Amberson drove in two runs. Brennan Talley also drove in a run.

ALEXANDRIA 4, WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 2: Brayden Thacker and Ian Cartwright combined to allow one earned run. Thacker struck out five batters over 5 2/3 innings, and Cartwright finished it off with two strikeouts in 1 /3 innings. Aiden Brunner had a single and two RBIs, Brodie Slaton went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and had a double. Samuel Henager went 2-for-3 with a run. OHATCHEE 10, FYFFE 0: Ohatchee’s Will Folsom pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine batters and walking one over five innings. He also went 1-for-3 with a run and RBI. Tyler Green went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Bryce Noah was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Ohatchee’s Ethan Jones went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Jake Roberson and Xavier Luna each drove in a run.

RAGLAND 10, FAITH CHRISTIAN 0: Brayden Byars had three of Ragland’s 14 hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Jake Donaldson homered, drove in two runs and scored two runs. Drake Kay went 2-for-3 with a triple, double and two RBIs. Casey Phillips went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Donaldson spread out five hits with no walks and five strikeouts over five innings. Vinson Montgomery, Eli Robinson, Carson Harris, Jayden Smith and Carson Limbaugh each had a hit for Faith. Montgomery’s was a double.

Softball

OXFORD 14, CLAY CHALKVILLE 3: Reagan Sanders and Emma Tims-Becerra each had three of Oxford’s 15 hits, each with a double. Sanders drove in four runs and Tims-Becerra two. Ashlyn Burns went 2-for-3 with a double, four runs and two RBIs. Kaelyn Crossley hit a triple with a run and two RBIs. Adajiah Wilson had a triple, run and RBI, and Kenlee Rodgers had a double, run and RBI. Crossley pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, two earned runs and one walk with five strikeouts.

PIEDMONT 18, SAKS 3: Jenna Calver went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs to lead Piedmont. Cacey Brothers also had a double, three RBIs and a run. Ava Pope and Abby Baird each drove in two runs, and Savannah Smith went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Jaycee Glover had a double and two runs.’ Carson Young pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs, allowing four hits and one earned run over five innings. Aubree Christopher, Miani Burton, Caylee Miller and Addie Wilson each had a hit for Saks. Miller’s was a triple, and Burton’s was a double.

WHITE PLAINS 9, JACKSONVILLE 3: White Plains’ Leighton Arnold pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts. She also went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, run and two RBIs. Hallie Williams went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Addison Bradley went 2-for-3 with a double, run and two RBIs. Cooper Martin, Halie Smith and Kylee Provencio each drove in a run. Jacksonville’s Carli Fritts homered and drove in two runs. Sara Kate Adams went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Soccer

SAKS 3, WEAVER 1: Saks’ girls improved to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in area play. Senior Sherlyn Farias, sophomore Alona Crews and eighth-grader Layla Garcia each scored a goal, and Garcia had two assists. The Wildcats play Hokes Bluff in an area match on Thursday. [read more sports stories…]
