Calhoun County, AL – Oxford gets one-hit shutout against Gadsden City; Smith gets it done on mound, at plate for Piedmont; Jacksonville, Cleburne County victorious in 4A, Area 9 play

Hayes Harrison and Eli Bozeman combined to pitch a one-hitter, and Oxford rolled to a 10-0 victory over Gadsden City on Tuesday in Class 6A, Area 13 play at Choccolocco Park. Harrison pitched four innings, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Bozeman got through an inning in 10 pitches with one strikeout. Sam Robertson led the way at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Peyton Watts and Trace Adams each had a hit and two RBIs. Nick Richardson went 2-for-2 with a double and a run, and Forrest Heacock had a double and RBI. Oxford, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, improved to 26-6.

PIEDMONT 15, WELLBORN 1: Piedmont bats awoke for 15 hits, and Sloan Smith pitched a three-hitter as the Bulldogs downed Wellborn 15-1 in Tuesday’s Class 3A, Area 10 play. Smith pitched a complete game, striking out four batters with no walks over five innings. At the plate, Smith went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and McClane Mohon went 4-for-4 with two doubles, four runs and an RBI. Jake Austin went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs, and Cole Austin was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Piedmont, No. 4 in Class 3A, is 19-6. Brennan Talley provided the highlight for Wellborn, going 2-for-3 with a double.

JACKSONVILLE 10, ANNISTON 0: Grant Patterson and Cooper Hodge combined to throw a no-hitter, and Jacksonville pounded out 13 hits en route to victory in five innings in Class 4A, Area 9 play. Patterson pitched three innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Hodge stuck out three batters and walked three in two innings. At the plate, Drew Pridgen went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Patterson and Jackson Bonner each had two hits and two RBIs, and Drake Loggins had a single and two RBIs.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 11, WHITE PLAINS 7: Jayson Deese homered and drove in two runs as Cleburne County won in Class 4A, Area 9 play. Brennan Jerrell went 2-for-4 with a double, run and two RBIs, and Nolen Wright was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Kannon Robertson and Jackson Fuller each had a double and RBI. White Plains’ Ashton Wallace homered and doubled and drove in two runs.
