Anniston, AL – As freezing temperatures loom over Anniston, the City is taking proactive measures to ensure the well-being of its residents. Starting this evening, a public warming station will open its doors at The Bridge, located at Anniston First United Methodist Church (1400 Noble St, Anniston, AL 36201). The station aims to provide refuge during the chilly nights, operating from 5:00 PM CST to 8:00 AM CST each night until Friday, December 22, 2023.
In response to the anticipated weather conditions, the warming station will extend its hours on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, opening at 6:00 PM CST. The possibility of further extensions will be evaluated based on evolving weather forecasts.
Residents are urged to take note of this initiative and make use of the warming station in the face of the approaching cold spell. To gather more information about the station, concerned individuals are encouraged to contact the local United Way via their 24/7 helpline by dialing 2-1-1.
Volunteer groups and organizations are being sought to assist in meal preparations for breakfasts and dinners at the warming station. Those willing to contribute can sign up through the ‘The Bridge Warming Station’ Facebook Group or get in touch with Kyle Bryan from the United Way of East Central Alabama at [email protected].
The Warming Station operates in alignment with weather forecasts, opening its doors when temperatures are projected to reach 36 degrees or below. The station’s considerations also extend to various inclement weather conditions, such as rain, to ensure the safety and comfort of those seeking refuge.
