Pet Preparedness in Disaster - Keep them safe - Governor's Office of Volunteer Services

Montgomery, AL – In an effort to foster a culture of service and volunteerism, the Governor’s Office of Volunteer Services plays a pivotal role as the Alabama State Service Commission, a governor-appointed state agency. Dedicated to addressing critical community needs and engaging citizens in service, the Commission administers various programs, including the AmeriCorps State program, Volunteer Generation Fund, and the Ready Alabama Campaign.

Functioning as a bridge between government and community, the office aims to increase the ethic of service and volunteerism across Alabama. Managing the Ready Alabama Campaign, a state-wide emergency preparedness initiative, the office encourages Alabamians to develop and utilize emergency kits, promoting disaster preparedness.

“Our office seeks to build the capacity of individuals and organizations to serve and transform the communities in which they live,” shared a representative from the Governor’s Office of Volunteer Services. “We are committed to supporting efforts that strengthen the capacity of Alabama’s faith and community-based organizations, fostering collaboration to address some of the greatest needs in our state.”

With a focus on collaboration, the Governor’s Office of Volunteer Services is actively working to partner with Animal Shelters, the Humane Society, and other pet-related institutions to advance service, volunteerism, and pet disaster preparedness in Alabama. This strategic alliance reflects the commitment to not only address immediate community needs but also extend support to organizations dedicated to the welfare of animals.
