Calhoun County, AL – Brunner’s bomb, Patterson’s no-no highlight big day for Alexandria baseball. Pleasant Valley’s hot hitting continues. Oxford improves to 5-1. Alexandria softball walks it off. Piedmont’s Smith pitches three-hitter in victory. Crossley powers Oxford in 15-0 victory. JCA off to 2-0 start. Anniston wins opener. Handley makes quick work of Valley. Jacksonville girls roll to area win in soccer.

 

ALEXANDRIA — Aiden Brunner’s solo home run highlighted a big day for Alexandria bats as the Valley Cubs downed Coosa Christian 12-1 on Thursday.

Brodie Slaton went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI, and Jacob Slaton hit a double while going 2-for-2 with a run and RBI.

Evan Snow doubled while going 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs. Alexandria got at least one RBI from eight of nine batters.

On the mound, Tripp Patterson pitched a five-inning no-hitter with a walk and nine strikeouts. Coosa Christian’s run was unearned.

PLEASANT VALLEY 15, WEAVER 3: Beware the Pleasant Valley bats.

Six Raiders had multiple hits and seven had at least one RBI as they improved to 4-1. Through five games, Pleasant Valley averages 15.2 runs.

Holt Bentley led the charge, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. John Garrett Bryant went 2-for-5 with a double, run and three RBIs.

Braxton Salster doubled while going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Noah Johnson singled and drove in two runs.

Caleb Shew hit a triple while going 2-for-2 with a run and RBI.

The Raiders broke the game open with an eight-run second inning, giving Bryce Freeman the win in relief. He went 2 1/3 innings, allowing one hit with no walks and three strikeouts.

Cael Fulmer brough the bright spot for Weaver with a single and RBI. Haiden Hise and Jalen Kendall each had an RBI.

OXFORD 4, CALHOUN (GA.) 2: Forrest Heacock doubled with an RBI, and Tide Gann and R.J. Brooks singled home runs as Oxford improved to 5-1.

Nick Richardson went 1-for-3 with a triple, and Carter Johnson doubled and scored twice.

Gavin Griner got the win in relief, working four innings with six strikeouts. He walked five and allowed three hits.

Canaan Whitman started and pitched three innings, allowing one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.

PEPPERELL (GA.) 6, PIEDMONT 4: At Piedmont (3-2), the newly minted Snead State Community College signee McClane Mohon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs at the plate. Hayes Gunn doubled and drove in a run.

Softball

ALEXANDRIA 6, PLEASANT VALLEY 5: After Pleasant Valley scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, clutch Clancy Bright delivered a walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the inning to lift Alexandria to 6-1.

Briley Bright, who reached on a fielder’s choice, scored the winning run.

Pleasant Valley (2-1) rallied in the top of the inning, and Lilly Robinson’s two-run single was the highlight. Abigail Evans’ grounder brought home a run, and Lily Henry walked and eventually scored on an error.

For Alexandria, Charlee Parris homered while going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Cali Hess went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI, and Christian Hess singled and drove in a run.

Pressley Slaton pitched a two-hitter, striking out five batters with two walks and allowing no earned runs in seven innings.

PIEDMONT 4, WHITE PLAINS 0: Savannah Smith pitched a three-hit shutout on 104 pitches with nine strikeouts as Piedmont opened the season with a victory.

She also scored a run and drove one in on a sacrifice fly.

Ava Pope singled with an RBI, and Carson Young hit a double and scored a run. Jaycee Glover had a steal and scored a run, and Cayla Brothers went 1-for-3 with a run.

White Plains’ three hits included doubles by Sara Kate Adams and K Provencio, and Cooper Martin singled.

Leighton Arnold had a strong game in the circle, pitching a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk as the Wildcats ended the day at 5-3.

OXFORD 15, CLAY-CHALKVILLE 0: Kaelyn Crossley pitched a one-hitter over three innings with three strikeouts. She also homered and drove in three runs.

Emma Aderholdt went 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, and JaMea Gaston went 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs.

Charleigh Trotter doubled and had an RBI.

Adajiah Wilson went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Emma Tims-Becerra was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Berkley Mooney singled and drove in a run. Jayla Jackson was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 14, GAYLESVILLE 3: Sophie Williams struck out four batters in five innings to get the win and went 2-for-2 at the plate, and JCA is off to a 2-0 start,

Riley Sanders went 1-for-3, Addy Lee. 1-for-2 with a triple, Carlie Chesson 1-for-3 and Cali Sexton 2-for-3.

ANNISTON 13, WINTERBORO 3: Sophomore Lyric Williams went 4-for-4, including two triples and a double, and struck out nine batters to lead Anniston to victory in its opener.

Seventh-grader Aubree Thomas had five RBIs, and freshman catcher Arianna Storey went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Senior Layla Thomas and eighth-grader Kameriya Thomas had an RBI apiece.

Winterboro’s Shiya Bolton went 3-for-4.

HANDLEY 16, VALLEY 0: Tayi Goss went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs, and Ella Hopper doubled and had three RBIs on the day as Handley improved to 4-2.

Mariana Whaley got the win, allowing one hit with five strikeouts in two innings. She also singled with three RBIs and two runs,

Kamlyn Holloway went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Soccer

JACKSONVILLE GIRLS 9, CLEBURNE COUNTY 1: In Class 4A Area 5 action, Jacksonville’s Willa Kate Walker had three goals, and Lexi Page had two goals and an assist. Dide Arin added two goals. Elena Sevgi and Sarah Sloughfy were credited with one apiece. Recording assists were Emerson Weaver with two, while Kylie Terrell and Page had one each.
