Calhoun County, AL – Maniscalco homers as Oxford makes it six consecutive wins. Boyd’s three RBIs pace Central-Clay. In softball, Randolph County scores 16 runs. Hokes Bluff, Ohatchee play a thriller. In soccer, Donoho’s girls roll to 10-0 victory. Donoho’s boys win in double OT. Johansson scores five goals as Weaver rolls.

 

GADSDEN — Reid Maniscalco hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Forrest Heacock had a double and two RBIs as Oxford beat Gadsden City 10-3 in Class 6A, Area 13 play on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets (22-8) play host to Gadsden City on Friday, looking to finish 6-0 in area play.

Oxford, which finished its 2023 state-championship run with a 19-game winning streak, also expanded its current winning streak to six games.

Maniscalco’s home run was his first as a varsity player.

Tide Gann went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Judd Syer went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs.

Carter Johnson was 3-for-5 with a run, and Nick Richardson was 2-for-4 with two runs,

Kainen Bozeman doubled and scored a run.

Canaan Whitman got the win, allowing three hits and one earned run with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. R.J. Brooks struck out four batters in 1 2/3 innings.

CENTRAL-CLAY 9, SYLAGAUGA 4: Taylor Boyd doubled and drove in three runs as Central-Clay improved to 9-11 with a win in Class 5A, Area 8 play.

J.L. Wilkerson had a double and two RBIs, and the Vols got a single and RBI apiece from Shaun Gibbons and Aden Young. Tyler Boyd went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Jaxson Wingo got the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts in four innings.

Softball

HOKES BLUFF 14, OHATHCEE 13: Two errors, one on Kadyn Howell’s grounder and one on Chloe Dodd’s bunt, helped Hokes Bluff (14-10-1) score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake the lead for good en route to a victory in Class 3A, Area 11 play.

Ohatchee (20-6-1) took a 13-12 lead in the top of the sixth on singles from Brylie Myer and Alanah Fitch.

Howell had a single, four runs and three RBIs, and Sophia Jackson had a double and two RBIs. Makenna Bennich went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. and Ryan Lumpkin had a run and two RBIs.

Ohatchee’s Breanna Martin went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.Myer and Savannah Reaves each had two hits and two RBIs, and Fitch had two RBIs.

Mackenzie Luna went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Gracelynn Reed went 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and one RBI.

RANDOLPH COUNTY 16, DADEVILLE 2: Talee Sims went 3-for-4 with two doubles with three runs and three RBIs, and Randolph County improved to 13-5-2 with a win in Class 3A, Area 7 play.

Kinsley Weathers went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, and Macie Smith had three RBIs.

Hannah Parmer went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Brantlee Wortham went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs.

Gracie Huckeba was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Lexi Key had a double and RBI, and Lizzie Milam had a single, two runs and an RBI.

Key got the win, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts in six innings.

Soccer

DONOHO GIRLS 10, SAKS 0: Erin Turley and Zoe Christopher scored three goals apiece as Class 1A-3A top-ranked Donoho improved to 13-0-1 and increased their season goals differential, now outscoring opponents 84-7.

Lauren Wigley and Anna Kate Wallace added two goals apiece.

DONOHO BOYS 3, GLENCOE 2 (2OT): Trey Alexander, Sam Johnson and Bruce Downey each scored a goal for Donoho.

Downey forced a penalty kick, and Alexander put it in the net with three minutes left in the second overtime period.

WEAVER GIRLS 10, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: Lena Johannson scored five goals to lead Weaver to a victory on the road. Erionna Richmond added three goals, and the Bearcats got one goal apiece from Jasmin Citlahua and Annalynna Canchucaja. Brooke Jones had six saves.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 10, WEAVER BOYS 4: Weavers Leo Mondragon scored two goals, and the Bearcats got one apiece from Orlando Mondragon and Jacob Wrobel.
