Gadsden, AL – In a stride towards bolstering community safety and cooperation, the police departments for Gadsden State Community College and the City of Gadsden formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today. The agreement, aimed at fostering mutual assistance and collaborative efforts, seeks to ensure the well-being of residents and students in Gadsden.

Jay Freeman, Chief of the Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Department, hailed the agreement as a pivotal move towards creating a safer and more secure community. “This is a significant step towards building a safer and more secure community,” Freeman stated.

The MOU outlines a commitment from both departments to share resources, expertise, and information to bolster public safety and emergency response capabilities. Freeman emphasized that the partnership underscores the potency of community collaboration in fostering a safer environment for citizens and students alike.

“This MOU marks a significant milestone in our joint commitment to safeguarding our community,” Freeman asserted. “By working together, we are not just pooling resources. We are building a stronger, more resilient Gadsden. Together, we stand stronger to maintain peace and security and to respond more effectively to any challenges that may arise.”

The establishment of the new police department at Gadsden State, serving all five of its campuses, signifies a proactive approach towards ensuring the safety of students and faculty. Chief Freeman, appointed in May 2023, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role, further fortifying the department’s mission to uphold community safety.

As the MOU takes effect, it symbolizes a unified commitment from both entities to prioritize community safety and foster a culture of cooperation and collaboration. With shared objectives and a collective dedication to public welfare, Gadsden takes a decisive stride towards creating a safer, more resilient community for all its residents and students.
