Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College has secured funding from the Alabama Department of Human Resources to empower local students this summer. The initiative aims to provide employment opportunities for area youths while contributing to the college’s operational needs.

The Summer Work Program, facilitated by the college, will engage five students from the community in various departments. Specifically, two positions will be allocated to the Maintenance Department, while one position each will be designated for Adult Education Services, Skills Training Division, and the Valley Street Campus.

Scheduled to run until August 31, the program offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain work experience and earn income during the summer break. Participants will receive compensation of $12 per hour for 19 hours of work per week.

Eligibility for the program is contingent upon several criteria. Prospective candidates must fall within the age bracket of 16 to 24 and demonstrate a household income that aligns with the 2024 Federal Poverty Guidelines. These guidelines consider both the gross annual income and the size of the family unit.

Roles within the Maintenance Department will involve tasks such as lawn care and pressure washing, while positions in other departments will entail general office duties like filing and answering phones.

Individuals interested in participating in the program are required to complete an application along with a signed Eligibility and Affirmation form. These documents serve as the initial step towards consideration for the available positions.

For those eager to explore the job opportunities and submit their applications, detailed job postings and the application process can be found on the Gadsden State Community College website at www.gadsdenstate.edu/employment.

By facilitating this Summer Work Program, Gadsden State Community College not only supports the educational and financial needs of local students but also fosters a sense of community engagement and empowerment.
