Orange Beach, AL — School Resource Officer (SRO) Deputy Seth Kirk was honored today at the TAASRO (The Alabama Association of School Resource Officers) annual conference for his exceptional actions in August of 2023. Deputy Kirk received the prestigious TAASRO Presidential Citation in recognition of his bravery and quick thinking during a vehicle pursuit incident.
The event in question began when another deputy initiated a vehicle pursuit. The suspect eventually crashed his vehicle and fled on foot, heading towards Pleasant Valley High School. Deputy Kirk, who was monitoring the pursuit as it approached his school, immediately alerted the school administration and activated school safety protocols to ensure the safety of students and staff. He then pursued and apprehended the suspect before the individual could enter the school premises.
Deputy Kirk’s decisive actions not only prevented a potentially dangerous situation but also exemplified the dedication and readiness of school resource officers to protect their communities.
The award was presented to Deputy Kirk by TAASRO President Lt. Pam Revels of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. The ceremony highlighted the critical role of SROs in maintaining school safety and the importance of their presence in educational environments.
