Alabama Attorney General Joins Coalition Opposing New Energy-Efficiency Standards for Stoves and Ovens

Attorney General Marshall Files Comments Opposing New Biden Rule on Stoves and Ovens

Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has aligned with a Nebraska-led coalition of 22 states to oppose the Biden Administration’s new energy-efficiency standards for stoves and ovens. The rule, which aims to enhance energy efficiency, is anticipated to increase the costs of kitchen appliances nationwide.

Attorney General Marshall expressed his concerns about the new regulations, stating, “Biden believes the rule of law doesn’t apply to his Administration, and even as our economy hangs in the balance, he is demanding we purchase new ‘energy-efficient’ kitchen appliances. American consumers, not the federal government, should pick the products we use in our homes, workplaces, and schools. From cars to refrigerators and now ovens, Biden’s radical agenda is a war on things that work. He’s sending our country in the wrong direction, and I cannot wait for November.”

These new standards for stoves and ovens follow similar regulations for household refrigerators and freezers. The rule was proposed through a procedure known as a “direct final rule,” which allows a federal agency to bypass the usual process of collecting public comments before finalizing a regulation. The coalition’s comment letter urges the Department of Energy to allow states and consumers an opportunity to provide feedback before the rule takes effect.

In addition to Alabama, the attorneys general from Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia have signed the comment letter opposing the new standards.
