Jacksonville, AL – Today, on June 15th at 9 a.m., the Jacksonville police and fire departments took to Burgess-Snow Field at Jacksonville State University Stadium for a friendly yet competitive charity flag football game. The event marked a spirited occasion where these two teams, who work together daily, had the chance to compete on the field while supporting a meaningful cause.

Chief Marcus Wood of the Jacksonville Police Department expressed, “Great Opportunity for two teams that work together all the time to get the chance to compete again one another for a great cause. We enjoyed the fellowship, although we come up short!!”enthusiasm about the event, emphasizing the camaraderie and fellowship between the departments.

Mayor Smith and Councilman Tony Taylor shared their excitement with the Calhoun Journal, praising the community’s support and turnout for the event. They noted that the charity game exemplified the strong community spirit of Jacksonville, where residents come together to support each other and local causes.

The final score of the game was Jacksonville Fire 46, Jacksonville Police 0, showcasing the friendly rivalry and good-natured competition between the first responders. The match was not only about athletic prowess, but also about raising funds for a worthy local organization.

With admission set at just $5 per person, families and friends enjoyed a morning of sports and community spirit while contributing to a vital cause within Jacksonville.

The event underscored the ongoing commitment of both the police and fire departments to serve and protect the community, both on the job and through community outreach events like this charity football game. As the game concluded, participants and spectators alike celebrated the sense of unity and support that defines Jacksonville’s community spirit.
