Anniston, AL – During the evening hours, on June 2, 2024, the Anniston Police Department was contacted regarding a possible shooting in the 300 block of Palmetto Ave. Upon arrival at the residence, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound and began to administer first aid as they requested assistance from the Anniston Fire Department paramedics. The victim, Dalrico Blake, 50, of Anniston was transported to North East Alabama Medical Center by ambulance. He was then transported by Life-flight to UAB in Birmingham in critical condition. On June 20, 2024, the victim succumbed to his injuries and the case was upgraded to a homicide.
During the course of the investigation, a suspect, Raekwon Blake, 27, of Anniston, was identified. It was also learned that a verbal argument between the suspect and victim had started when the suspect escalated and produced a weapon and shooting the victim. There was no weapon located on the victim. Investigators were able to secure warrants for murder against the suspect and they began to look for him. Blake was taken into custody On June 21, 2024, by the Anniston Police Investigators, 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit Investigators, and the US Marshalls.
Blake is currently being held in the Calhoun County Jail where he charged with Murder-intentional and does not currently have a bond issued.
Lt. Randy Grier issued a statement that advised the investigation is still ongoing.
