Calhoun County Area Chamber & Visitors Center partners with Jax State in LEAD Program

Anniston, AL  – The Calhoun County Area Chamber & Visitors Center has launched a new initiative in partnership with Jacksonville State University (Jax State) aimed at educating graduating students about the opportunities within Calhoun County and fostering essential networking connections among peers. The LEAD program, which stands for Leadership, Education, and Development, is set to make its debut on August 12th, just before the start of the university’s fall semester.

The LEAD program is an intensive, three-day immersive experience designed to equip future leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate and contribute to their community effectively. The program emphasizes leadership through service and community collaboration, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the resources and challenges within Calhoun County.

“In our LEAD class, we cultivate the skills and mindset necessary to lead with purpose, empathy, and resilience. We are transforming these individuals to not just learn to direct but also to uplift and empower those around them,” said Savannah Dempsey, Business Development Director at the Chamber.

Over the course of the program, students will delve into various sectors, including Economic Development, Local and Federal Government, Local Attractions, Career Readiness, and Leadership Skills. The goal is to give students a well-rounded view of the community and its offerings, as well as to prepare them for leadership roles in their future careers.

Vallie Mitchell, a Marketing major at Jax State and a participant in the LEAD program, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Networking is crucial in the marketing industry, and I aim to build meaningful, long-lasting connections while developing my leadership skills.”

The LEAD program represents a strategic effort to retain talent within Calhoun County by showing students the value of staying and working in the area after graduation. By engaging students in this unique learning experience, the Chamber and Jax State hope to strengthen the local workforce and build a community of leaders who are well-prepared to face the challenges of tomorrow.

This inaugural program is just the beginning of what both organizations hope will be an ongoing effort to connect graduates with the Calhoun County community, ensuring they recognize the potential that lies within their own backyard.
