Weaver, AL – Per the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, a juvenile resident of Calhoun County and student at Weaver High School has been arrested and charged with Terroristic Threats in the 1st degree, a felony, following an incident involving a threat of violence made toward another student. The juvenile is currently being held at the Coosa Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
The investigation was initiated after a concerned parent reported the threat to school administration and the School Resource Officer. Upon receiving the report, investigators from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office located the juvenile suspect, who was subsequently interviewed and arrested.
Authorities believe the juvenile referenced a widely circulated social media message that had sparked fear within the local community. While investigators do not believe the arrested student was responsible for creating the social media threat targeting several local schools, the juvenile used the widespread fear generated by the message as part of their threat toward another student.
The investigation into the social media threat continues as officials work to determine the original source of the message. The Sheriff’s Office urges the public to remain vigilant and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
