Jacksonville Police To Host Annual Youth Fishing Rodeo

Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood has announced the upcoming Annual Youth Fishing Rodeo, set to take place on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Public Safety Complex pond. This exciting event is open to children ages 15 and under and offers families a fun, engaging opportunity to spend time outdoors while interacting with local law enforcement.

Hosted by the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) and the Alabama Wildlife & Freshwater Fisheries-Law Enforcement Section, the rodeo will feature a variety of activities, including free fishing poles for children (while supplies last), free hotdogs, chips, and drinks, and door prizes. One lucky child will be selected at random to receive a lifetime fishing license, donated by the Alabama Conservation Enforcement Officers Association. The Game and Fish Association has also contributed funds to support door prizes, which will be distributed after the fishing competition, along with a free lunch for all attendees. The City Council will be sponsoring the fish for the catch-and-release rodeo, ensuring that there’s plenty of activity for young anglers.

The event will begin with registration at 8:15 a.m., followed by fishing from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.. Participants can expect a fun-filled day of catch-and-release fishing, with lunch and the awarding of door prizes afterward. Chief Wood highlighted the event as a chance for children and their families to bond with local police officers in a friendly and relaxed setting. “It’s a way for us to intermingle with the public and get to know each other while enjoying something we all love—fishing,” said Chief Wood.

The Public Safety Complex is located at 911 Public Safety Drive, behind Walmart in Jacksonville. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children online at tinyurl.com/youth-fish as spots are limited to 100 participants.
