Governor Ivey Announces $3.1 Million to Fund Road and Bridge Projects Across State, Continues Rebuilding Alabama

Montgomery, AL – Governor Kay Ivey on Monday announced $3.1 million in state funding for various road and bridge projects across Alabama, demonstrating her continued focus on improving the state’s infrastructure. The funding is part of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) Annual Grant Program, created under the Rebuild Alabama Act, which was signed into law by Ivey in 2019.

The Rebuild Alabama Act requires ALDOT to allocate at least $10 million from gas tax revenues annually for local projects. This program has played a key role in Alabama’s infrastructure overhaul, with Governor Ivey earning recognition as the “infrastructure governor” for the strides made in upgrading roads and bridges statewide.

“From day one of the Ivey Administration, I have made clear to the people of our state that improving Alabama’s roads and bridges is a top priority, and I am proud we continue delivering on that promise,” Ivey said. “Our work is not done, and we will continue delivering results in all 67 of our counties.”

In addition to the $3.1 million in state funds, cities and counties contributed $1.37 million in matching funds to support these infrastructure improvements. Under the program’s requirements, all awarded projects must commence within one year of funding allocation.

The 2024 fiscal year has seen over $15 million in state transportation funds awarded through the application-based program, marking the first time ALDOT funded the Annual Grant Program above the minimum $10 million threshold set by the Rebuild Alabama Act. Since the act’s passage, projects in all 67 counties have received state funding.

Governor Ivey is expected to visit several regions awarded funds, including DeKalb, Chilton, and Dale counties, beginning in October.
