Anniston, AL – Significant progress has been made on Anniston’s Ladiga Trail Extension since the groundbreaking in April 2024, despite some delays. B&B Developers, the project contractor, has been working diligently, and here’s the latest on the trail’s development:
Several rain events in September caused delays, but B&B managed to make progress by placing and compacting the crushed aggregate base layer. This foundation now extends from Michael Tucker Park southbound to Blue Mountain Road, preparing the trail for paving.
Though paving was initially set to begin in late September, it was postponed due to the rain-soaked site. Fortunately, the weather improved, and as of the last days of September, asphalt paving is now underway. However, the area remains a construction site, so the public is asked to stay off the trail until completion.
B&B received the steel rebar reinforcement package, beginning the staging and preparation for the upcoming bridge work. Engineers have also approved the shop drawings for the prefabricated truss bridge over Cane Creek, moving this critical piece into the fabrication phase.
Grading operations along Whiteside Drive are ongoing. The area’s backslope has been reshaped, and the roadbed constructed. These improvements will ensure the subgrade reaches the desired elevation and enhance drainage along the section.
Anniston’s extension of the Chief Ladiga Trail will add 6.5 miles, bringing the total trail length to approximately 39.5 miles. Once completed, the Chief Ladiga will connect to Georgia’s Silver Comet Trail, creating the longest paved pedestrian pathway in the U.S., stretching over 105 miles.
