FAYETTEVILLE — Ethan Bailey’s nickname is “Alf,” and his recent absence with a concussion made him somewhat like an alien to his Donoho teammates.

He reintroduced himself with 100-plus yards rushing Thursday, and the the Falcons beat Fayetteville 33-15 in Class 1A, Region 6 play.

Coming off of a winless 2023, Donoho improve to 2-5, 1-2 region with big dreams for the remaining of the season’s second half.

“We talked about it all week, about making the playoffs,” first-year Donoho coach Bill Smith said. “We were not happy with our wins and losses, but we still can finish the year 5-5 and be third in the region.”

The top four teams in each region make the playoffs.

Bailey’s night included a 35-yard touchdown run.

Jordan Cameron caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Kai Cleckler, and Cameron added an 85-yard interception return for a score.

Offensive lineman scooped and scored for a 30-yard return after Fayetteville suffered a high punt snap,.

Bruce Downey added field goals of 37 and 38 yards and delivered three kickoffs for touchbacks.

“Just really a good team win,” Smith said. “It was good to get ‘Alf’ back. He’s been out the last game and a half.

“It was an awesome win going into our bye week.”
