Weaver, AL – Weaver Councilwoman Terri Summerlin, a beloved member of the community and a dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully around midnight last night. Her daughter, Amy, shared the news on Facebook, stating:

“Terri Summerlin was my mom and was loved by so many. She passed away peacefully around midnight last night. We found out three weeks ago that she was not well. She has been surrounded by friends, family, and love. Per her wishes, she will be cremated. We plan to have a Celebration of Life Ceremony for her. We will share details about this event as soon as we can. Thank you to everyone who has loved her, befriended her, and appreciated what a beautiful person she was. She will be missed, and the world won’t be the same without her. -Amy”

Terri was more than just a councilwoman—she was a cornerstone of the City of Weaver, a voice for the community, and a person who radiated warmth, compassion, and wisdom. She dedicated her life to serving Weaver, first as city clerk and later as a city councilwoman. Terri’s dedication to Weaver was not only seen in her official roles but also in her personal interactions, where she always sought to uplift those around her.

Former Mayor Wayne Willis, who worked closely with Terri during his tenure, shared his deep respect for her: “Working with Terry was a pleasure because she was so knowledgeable and she knew finances and managing money so well that she made our jobs very easy. She was the backbone of getting Weaver’s finances back on track, and her decisions brought stability to the city. On a personal level, she was an incredibly sweet, caring, and compassionate person. I used to call her the ‘big toe’ of Weaver, meaning she set the tone for everything. She laughed about it and took it as a compliment. She’ll be deeply missed.”

Terri’s work with the city not only helped navigate challenging financial times but also fostered a spirit of cooperation and respect among those she worked with. Councilwoman Cathy Hamby expressed her sadness, stating, “I am so saddened by the passing of Terri. It was such a privilege to have worked with her side by side on the City Council. She truly was a servant to our Weaver community. Her knowledge of the city’s history was incredible, and she would often share stories of the good times and the tough ones. I will miss her so much—she was funny, outspoken, and a wonderful person.”

Weaver Police Chief Wayne Bush shared his appreciation for Terri, reflecting on her support for the police department: “Terri was always great to work with, she always strived to see that things were done correctly, and she was very supportive of the Police Department and its mission. I am thankful to have known Terri, to have gotten to work with her, and to have had her as a friend.”

Her fellow council members echoed the sentiments of loss and respect. Councilman Tim McRae shared, “Terri was more than just a great councilperson. She was a personal friend. She will truly be missed.” Mayor Pro Tem Nick Bowles added, “Terri was such a sweet soul. She loved Weaver and the local community. She had so much knowledge and was genuinely committed to making Weaver a better place.” Councilman Clint Burns also expressed his admiration for Terri: “Terri was a wonderful lady. I enjoyed working alongside her and getting to know her. She was great for the City of Weaver and will be missed by many.”

Terri Summerlin’s legacy will live on in the city she loved so dearly, in the hearts of those she worked with, and in the family she cherished. As Weaver prepares to celebrate her life in the coming days, the community is left with a profound sense of loss but also deep gratitude for all she gave.

I personally got to know and work with Terri writing for the Calhoun Journal and had a great deal of respect for her and considered her a friend. She will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this time.

Terri Summerlin will be missed, but her impact on Weaver will be felt for generations to come.
