Calhoun County, AL – Local agricultural advocates showcased their support for education and youth development during the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation Skeet Shoot, held on November 1 at Selwood Farms in Alpine. Among the participants were teams from the Calhoun County Young Farmers and Trantham Services, all aiming to raise funds for scholarships, educational programs, and initiatives that promote agricultural awareness.
The Calhoun County Young Farmers team included Adam Wilson, Coleman Lett, Joseph Dothard, and Briar Reed. Representing Trantham Farms were Troy Trantham, Ted Cox, Heath Mecham, and Scott Shew. The Trantham Servicesteam comprised Matt Dunaway, Ryan Harmon, Blake Newland, and Hoyt Harmon.
The annual skeet shoot is one of many events organized by the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation to fulfill its mission of advancing agriculture through education, research, and public outreach. Proceeds from the event support programs such as Ag in the Classroom, which equips teachers with resources to educate students about agriculture; college scholarships for aspiring agricultural professionals; the Alabama Jr. Livestock Expo; and leadership opportunities like the Alfa Youth Leadership Conference.
By bringing together farmers, businesses, and community members, the Foundation highlights the importance of agriculture to Alabama’s economy and culture. This year’s skeet shoot reinforced the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring that agriculture remains a thriving part of Alabama’s future.
