Piedmont, AL – Pinto’s big week continues, leads Piedmont to season-opening victory. PIEDMONT — Rollie Pinto’s big week continued with a big performance in Piedmont’s season-opening boys’ basketball game.

Fresh off of seeing the AHSAA recognize his 1,826 receiving yards as a single-season record in football, he scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 64-60 victory over visiting Sand Rock.

It marked Pinto’s first basketball game since the 2022-23 season. He missed the 2023-24 season because of a football-related knee injury.

Pinto did most of his damage at the foul line Tuesday, hitting 10 out of 12 free throws. He also hit one 3-pointer.

Cole Wilson, Piedmont’s quarterback in football, hit three 3-pointers en route to 15 points, and Colton Proctor hit two threes and finished with 11 points.

JACKSONVILLE 59, ST. CLAIR COUNTY 57: Ben Pridgen scored a team-high 15 points, and Aaron Nixon scored nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as Jacksonville held off St. Clair County.

Nixon provided the go-ahead points with a bucket plus and-one free throw with 30 seconds to play, and Jacksonville outscored St. Clair County 17-11 in the decisive fourth quarter.

Mason Scoggins and Kamouri Harmon each hit a three in the fourth quarter, and Scoggins finished with 12 points.

ALEXANDRIA 76, SARDIS 55: Alexandria’s Quendavion McDowell dominated, with 28 points and 22 rebounds, as the Valley Cubs improved to 2-0.

He also had three assists and two steals.

M.J. Morris hit three of four 3-point shots on the way to 13 points, and Cole Wheeler hit three of five threes on the way to 11 points. J.J. Beason added 10 points

WHITE PLAINS 43, CLEBURNE COUNTY 38: Ethan Turner and Cash Pritchett led the way as White Plains outscored Cleburne County 21-10 in the fourth quarter.

Turner scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Pritchett scored nine of his 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Matthew Wilson led Cleburne County with 18 points, and Lyric Ware scored 11.

SPRING GARDEN 76, WEAVER 43: Jake Welch poured in 26 points to lead Spring Garden to victory.

Jaylen Baker-Brown added 15 points. Noah Barber hit four 3-pointers for his 12 points, and Connor Bates hit two threes en route to 12 points.

Weaver got 13 points from Harper Williams, and KeShawn Allen added nine.

HOOVER 58, OXFORD 46: Oxford got 13 points from Marcus Perry, 12 from Jaylen Alexander and 10 from Jaylin Taylor in his first action of the season, coming off of football season.

Perry and Taylor hit three 3-pointers apiece.

COOSA CHRISTIAN 79, WEST END-WALNUT GROVE 54: Coosa Christian jumped out to a 28-6 lead in the first quarter, and the Conquerors are off to a 2-0 start under new head coach Rocky Peek.

Kylen Johnson led the way with 24 points. Jaxon Peek added 17 and Jaylen Jones 14.

FAITH CHRISTIAN 70, RAGLAND 60: Dylan Rogers hit five 3-pointers, four in the first quarter, en route to 18 points as the Lions roared to victory.

Colton Reese added 14 points, including two 3-pointers, and Parker Robertson added 12 points.

Faith hit 22 out of 30 free throws.

Ragland’s Tacorion Soles scored a game-high 23 points.

GLENCOE 70, OHATCHEE 54: Glencoe got 26 points from Garrett Morgan and 25 from Grant Smith while winning at Ohatchee.

Wade Segrest added 13 points.

Jayden Heard paced Ohatchee with 16 points, including three 3-pointers. Alston Carroll hit three threes en route to 13 points, and Hunter Brown added 10 points.

Girls

JACKSONVILLE 92, ST. CLAIR COUNTY 19: Jayci Taylor poured in 32 points, hitting four 3-pointers, as Jacksonville rolled to a big night.

Alexis Philliips hit four threes while scoring 21 points, and Ontarriah Braxton hit three threes on the way to 17 points.

Jacksonville hit 13 threes overall.

SAND ROCK 57, PIEDMONT 53: Cayla Brothers led three Piedmont players in double figures with 16 points, but the Bulldogs fell to 0-4. Miyah Thomas added 13 points, and Jenna Duke scored 10.

Carson Young hit two 3-pointers while scoring eight points.

GLENCOE 63, OHATCHEE 40: Kinlee Montgomery hit two 3-pointers on the way to 19 points as Glencoe won at Ohatchee.

Anna Ponder added 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Alli Amos contributed 12 points.

Ohatchee got 11 points from Tabi Davidson. Lindsey Zurchin hit three 3-pointers to account for her nine points.
