Jonathan Nix, who coached Pleasant Valley to a second place region finish and first home playoff game in 40 years in 2024, is the Alabama Football Coaches Association Class 2A coach of the year.
He highlights a list of area winners that includes three assistant coaches of the year: Piedmont’s Kevin Bedwell (Class 3A), Cherokee County’s Bret Henderson (Class 4A) and Oxford’s Chad Cochran (Class 6A). Cochran and Henderson are defensive coordinators, and Bedwell serves as Piedmont’s offensive coordinator.
Under Nix, Pleasant Valley finished 8-3 and in second place in 2A, Region 7. The second-place region finish won the Raiders the right to play its first home playoff game since 1984.
“I am so proud of this team and coaching staff on making something like this possible,” said Nix, who won an ALFCA award as an assistant in 2011. “Amazing what can happen when we all work in the same direction, believing in each other.
“This was a special year for sure! I am just excited about the direction the 2025 team is headed.”
