Calhoun County, AL – Calhoun County’s Carla Trantham has been elected to serve as vice chairman of the Alabama Farmers Federation’s State Women’s Leadership Committee during the organization’s 103rd annual meeting held in Montgomery on December 8-9. The committee provides a platform for women to engage in policymaking and agricultural advocacy across the state.
Trantham, pictured with Federation Women’s Leadership Division Director Kim Earwood, joins a team of newly elected leaders dedicated to advancing the committee’s mission. Bright smiles and enthusiastic greetings set the tone as delegates from the Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers Committees convened to select state leaders.
Talladega County’s Rachel Chastain was elected as chair of the State Women’s Leadership Committee and re-elected to represent Region 2. Alongside her, Dixie Black of Butler County will serve as secretary.
Other notable appointments include Shelley East of Cherokee County, who will represent Region 1, encompassing 16 counties in northern Alabama, and Vickie Watkins of Tallapoosa County, selected for Region 4, covering southeastern Alabama.
Chastain and Dees, chair of the State Young Farmers Committee, will serve one-year, ex-officio terms on the Federation’s state board.
The State Women’s Leadership Committee continues to emphasize the importance of women’s roles in agriculture and community leadership. With Trantham’s election, the committee gains a proven advocate for agricultural interests in Calhoun County and beyond.
