Investigation Launched into Officer-Involved Shooting in Rainbow City

Rainbow City – On Wednesday, December 11, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) began an investigation into an officer-involved shooting at the request of the Rainbow City Police Department.

The incident occurred around 11:56 a.m. on Williams Avenue in Rainbow City when officers from the Rainbow City and Gadsden Police Departments responded to a domestic situation. According to authorities, the suspect, identified as Jamin David Elkins, 46, of Dora, Florida, fired at officers. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Elkins.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and the findings will be submitted to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office for review. No further details are currently available.
