Ohatchee, AL – On December 17, 2024, at approximately 7:30 AM, the Ohatchee Police Department responded to a reported assault and abduction in the 1400 Block of Spring Road in Ohatchee, Alabama. The initial report, made by Christofer Tyrome Gregory Cooper, alleged that Brandy Brooks, a female victim, was assaulted, forced into a vehicle, and taken against her will by a male assailant identified as Cody. Cooper remained at the scene and provided details to the responding officer.
Following the report, law enforcement issued a “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alert and classified Brooks as a missing endangered person. The case quickly escalated, involving multiple agencies including the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and ALEA Aviation. Investigators searched the area, followed leads, and interviewed witnesses to locate the alleged victim.
At approximately 4:00 PM, Brandy Brooks contacted the Ohatchee Police Department, stating she had been informed of her missing person status. She explained that she lacked phone service earlier and, upon regaining it, received multiple messages expressing concern. Brooks voluntarily appeared at the police department for an interview, where she clarified that no abduction had occurred.
Based on evidence and witness statements, investigators determined the initial report was fabricated. On December 18, 2024, the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and issued a warrant for Christofer Tyrome Gregory Cooper, 27, on charges of False Reporting to local, state, or federal law enforcement authorities.
Ohatchee Police Chief Alan Kelly expressed gratitude to the agencies and individuals who assisted in the investigation. Law enforcement is actively seeking Cooper and urges anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Ohatchee Police Department at 256-892-3156.
This case highlights the significant resources required to address false reports, which divert attention from genuine emergencies and hinder public safety efforts.
