Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) issued a statement welcoming the newly elected members of the U.S. Senate while expressing optimism about advancing key priorities for Alabama and the nation in the 119th Congress.
“Congratulations to the new freshman class of Senators—Angela Alsobrooks, Jim Banks, Lisa Blunt Rochester, John Curtis, Ruben Gallego, Jim Justice, Andy Kim, Dave McCormick, Bernie Moreno, Adam Schiff, Tim Sheehy, and Elissa Slotkin! We have a real opportunity to get things done on behalf of the American people,” Senator Britt remarked. “While I am tremendously excited about the new Republican majority in the U.S. Senate, there is still so much opportunity to get things done on a bipartisan basis for Alabamians.”
Senator Britt highlighted border security and immigration enforcement as her primary focus in the upcoming legislative session. She plans to introduce legislation on January 6, the first day of business for the new Congress, to address illegal immigration and strengthen national security.
“This Congress, my first priority out of the gate will be strengthening border security and interior immigration enforcement—something the American people overwhelmingly voted to support in November,” Britt emphasized. “It’s time to make America safe once again.”
During the 118th Congress, Senator Britt championed several initiatives targeting border security and community safety. Among these were:
- A legislative package introduced early in her term to secure the southern border, combat asylum abuse, and end catch-and-release policies.
- The Laken Riley Act, requiring the detention and removal of undocumented individuals who commit theft or similar crimes.
- The Secure the Border Act, which included provisions for resuming construction of the border wall, tightening asylum standards, and increasing Border Patrol personnel.
- The FINISH IT Act, mandating the use of unused border wall materials for completing sections of the wall.
Other supported legislation addressed transparency in handling migrants at the border and measures to curb trafficking and illegal immigration. Senator Britt also backed efforts to address the fentanyl crisis, including the Fairness in Fentanyl Sentencing Act and the FEND Off Fentanyl Act.
With the 119th Congress now convening under a Republican majority, Senator Britt remains committed to bipartisan collaboration and advancing policies that reflect the needs of Alabamians. Her focus on border security aligns with her broader goal of enhancing the safety and well-being of American families.
