Anniston, AL – Since the groundbreaking in April 2024, B&B has made significant progress on Anniston’s Ladiga Trail Extension. The latest updates from February 5 to March 5, 2025, highlight key construction milestones.
Last month, B&B and its subcontractors set the truss bridge in place over Cane Creek. This month, crews reinforced the bridge deck with steel rebar before using a pump truck to efficiently pour and set the concrete surface, ensuring a smooth ride for cyclists.
Work continued at the 47th Street crossing with the installation of aprons, pipes, and junction boxes to enhance drainage. The aprons include footers that secure the triple box culvert, maintaining stability even during heavy water flow. X-Roads Construction successfully poured the concrete bridge slab at the Highway 431 crossing, while Siberton Fence installed chain link fencing along the rail to enhance safety for all trail users.
B&B set the bridge beams, followed by X-Roads Construction pouring the deck and end slabs, moving this section closer to completion.
The 4th Street bridge deck was designed as a precast box beam, a reinforced concrete structure engineered for durability and long-term stability.
Anniston’s trail extension will add 6.5 miles to the Chief Ladiga Trail, bringing its total length to approximately 39.5 miles. Once completed, the trail will seamlessly connect Anniston’s Multimodal Amtrak Station to Georgia’s Silver Comet Trail, forming the longest paved pedestrian pathway in the United States at more than 105 miles.
